What a surprise! Just over the state line from Louisiana into Mississippi there is a real treat at the rest area. It's not your usual rest stop by any means. It's a real place to take a break.
It's a beautiful building complete with pillars, bricked sidewalks and lot's of park benches among the mature trees.
The phone rings and we are making sign language to each other about going inside the building to check it out.
Look at this! The entire welcome center is decorated with Mardi Gra costumes. This is just a few shots I took to show you. Who knew??
Every room has costumed figures along with capes and lot's of colorful feathers.
This is a rest area?
This is also the Stennis Space Center sponsored by Nasa. With tours that can be taken daily on a bus that leaves from here!
The hosts here offer soft drinks and friendly smiles to all the travelers stopping by. Another unusual touch.
There are great parking spots for RV's, complete with water hook ups. We find a good place and decide to stay for the night. I think this place might become a regular stopping point for us when we are traveling.
Look over here - now this is a spot to set and just be for a little while.
