I am going to tone the gold moldings down somewhat by painting and shading each one. So this requires a roll of paper towels, black acrylic paint, a good brush, and a pair of rubber gloves.
It's a simple process really - just paint over the entire surface making sure to cover every little crease and carving with paint. Then working quickly take paper towels and wipe the paint off. The paint will come off but leave a antiqued hue to it, along with a beautiful shading in all of the little crevices.
This process takes time and careful handling of each molding one by one.
Paint and wipe, paint and wipe. And oh yes..... talk on my hands free phone!
And the end result of one piece looks like this. Nice?
My husband comes through and he likes my idea. Good - I knew he would like it once he saw a finished product.
Now that really looks different. This project took me two days to complete, but I am really happy with the results. Can't wait to see how it all comes together in our library now.
These gloves are well used, so straight to the garbage can with these. Sure glad I wore gloves!
