And before we knew it, time had flown by and we were back on a plane headed to Athens Greece to spend the night and then board another flight for home. We made a mistake and that was not booking a free day for us to just 'be' in Rhodes. It's a fascinating place that I really wish we had time to explore some.
And Athens is interesting too! Years ago my husband was here, but I couldn't travel with him at that time, because our daughter was a little girl in school. (He brought me back a long cream fur coat as a present from Athens - I still have it) But he has always told me he wanted me to experience Athens. But alas on this trip there is only one short afternoon and evening in this great place. So with this limited time frame he told me he had the perfect solution so I could see it fast! ???
So we got in a taxi, and he pointed the driver in a certain direction and off we went. Getting out of the taxi,we looked up at old stone steps climbing to the sky (it seemed) Where are we going???
We climbed and climbed...... stopped and rested and climbed some more. Laughing and breathing heavy, with our chests heaving we made it to the top at last! We had climbed to the highest point in Athens to see the city, and view a tiny church perched on the top! Unbelievable how my husband can give me the perfect ending to our trip!
One word to describe it - awesome from the top! And the Athens ruins are amazing to see from this height! Look at this picture! And where the ancient peoples built their temples!
And then we had a romantic dinner alone looking over the city in a breathtaking view of the city at sunset! Every detail was perfect - my husband knows how to show me Athens quickly. My oh my!
How did he get this table at this special restaurant just for us!
Being in Athens and seeing an unforgettable picture of it at sunset, a fantastic gourmet meal, and being with my best friend of 32 + years now - this is the perfect ending to a wonderful trip!
